India unearths multi crore tax evasion scam in US Embassy

India’s stance on Devyani Khobragade asking US authorities to drop charges against Indian Diplomat might get boost with Indian authorities unearthing a multi crore tax evasion scam in a school run by US Embassy in New Delhi here since 1972.
As per reports, US Diplomats committed alleged visa frauds, tax evasions since 1972 and violated several Indian rules by falsely showing their wives as housewives in their visa applications as they used to work as teachers at the American Embassy School.
Sources say that penalties of these violations might run into crores of rupees as the school is located inside the premises of US Embassy and these violations seems to have been either ignored as not to engage in any conflict with the mighty US or it went unnoticed due to a number of relaxations offered by Indian authorities to US Diplomats.
Meanwhile, US State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki sought to disassociate itself from the whole controversy and stated that the American Embassy School in being run by the US Embassy but we are working Indian government to resolve the concerns raised by the authorities.
Psaki reportedly said that US Deputy Secretary of State William Burns had discussed the concerns with Indian Ambassador S Jaishankar earlier this week.
