The Taxi Operators Union on Wednesday called off their three strike after getting assurance from Himachal government of not hiking taxes on commercial vehicles as it was proposed by the Transport department.
State action committee of Taxi operators and all commercial vehicles’ General Secretary Jeet Ram said that Transport Minister GS Bali has been pressurising them on tax hike issue as a notification in this regard has already been issued. He demanded that Bali should either be shifted to another ministry or his portfolio should be taken away from him.
Bali, however, in a statement had denied the allegations and had said that taxi drivers should provide better services and ensure the safety of passengers, especially women.
More than 80,000 taxi operators of the Himachal had joined the three day strike against the Transport department’s move to hike taxes on commercial vehicles including truck, cabs and other such commercial vehicles.
