Himachal Congress celebrates 128th Establishment Day of Congress party

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee today celebrated the 128th Establishment Day (Sthapana Diwas) of Indian National Congress here at Rajiv Bhawan Shimla under the chairmanship of HPCC President Th. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.
Addressing party workers on the occasion, Sukhu said that Congress party is today celebrating its 128th Establishment Day which is proud moment for party leaders and workers. “Congress party was established on December 28, 1885 by A.O. Hume and Vomesh Chandra Banerjee was the first president of the party at that time,” Sukhu said, adding that since then, the party is working for the welfare of general public and country at large and it will continue to do so in the future also.
Sukhu further said that Congress party has been led by great leaders as Mahatma Gandhi, popularly called as ‘Father of Nation’, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Lala Lajpat Rai, Vipin Chandra Pal, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Jawahar Lal Nehru, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Mahadev Desai, Subhash Chander Bose, Lal Bahadur Shashtri, Smt Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi over the period of its 128 year old history.
HPCC President said that after India got freedom in 1947, Congress party remained as the one of the major political parties of India and many prominent leaders of the party has led the nation as Prime Minister and worked for the welfare of the country and its people. “The history of Congress party is replete with many proud moments and presently the party is being led by Smt Sonia Gandhi who is tirelessly working for the progress and unity of the country,” the HPCC President said, adding that it was due to the sincere efforts and able leadership of Smt Gandhi that India today is counted among the leading countries of the world.
He said that Congress party has played a major role in maintaining the unity and integrity of India and party is firm in its resolve to continue to protect the unity and integrity of the country in future also.
“Congress party has played a major role in the independence of the country and after independence, the party has introduced various developmental schemes in the country that led to the creation of a modern India,” he said.
He added that it was due to the futuristic thinking of the party leaders that has led to the creation of modern India as it continue to progress and develop as one of the leading powers in the world.
