Coalgate: If Birla and I are accused, then name PM too – Former Coal Secretary

New Delhi/October 16
In yet another controversy for Congress led UPA government at centre in multi million Coal scam, former Coal Secretary PC Parakh on Wednesday said that if CBI, the premier investigation agency of India, thinks that I and KM Birla has conspired for wrong allotment of a coal block then Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should also considered an conspirator in the same case.
Parakh said that the PM should also be held accountable in the case as he was the Coal Minister as that time and PM has approved the coal block allocation which were cleared by me. He was reacting to queries regarding a CBI case that was filed by investigating against him and Birla yesterday for a coal block allocation in 2005 and they are booked by CBI on charges of cheating and conspiracy.
Parakh said that Birla had met PM regarding coal block allocation and had made presentation to me and the PM after which I had forwarded the file to Singh for granting coal block as there was merit in the case of Birla’s company Hindalco. “So if CBI had made me accused in the case then the investigating agency should file case against PM as he was the Coal minister at that time and he has approved the allocation of coal block. If CBI thinks that there is some conspiracy in the case, then not only I and Birla but PM should be booked on same charges,” Parakh said.
