US national robbed in Mumbai local train

Mumbai/August 19
In a grim reminder of how unsafe women are while traveling alone, a US national was robbed of her smartphone in a local train at Marine Lines station in Mumbai. The US woman, who works with an NGO, suffered injuries on her neck and cheek during a scuffle with the accused.
“Michelle Marks was returning to her residence at Goregaon after attending prayers at Churchgate when she was attacked by the accused, who is suspected to be a drug addict. The accused also slashed her with a blade when she tried to resist his attempt to snatch her iPhone,” said the police, adding that the accused jumped off the train when it slowed at Charni Road station.
Marks was rushed to Nair Hospital for medical treatment and her condition is said to be stable as the blade injuries are superficial. Meanwhile, police have registered a case in this regard and they are checking the CCTV footage to nab the accused.
