Himachal government on Thursday revealed that it has renewed the licenses and registration certificates of 18 builders from January 1 to July 31 this year.
While replying to a query of BJP MLA Mohinder Singh, Town and Country Planning minister Sudhir Sharma said that the registration of 12 builders was renewed, whereas licences were re-issued to six colonizers from Jan 1 to July 31 this year.
These developments assumes significance as some builders were indicted by the judicial commission set up in previous BJP regime to probe benami land deals. The Congress party, while in opposition was critical of the issue and had alleged that the then BJP government was helping the builder lobby. The Congress government, however, later took advantage of the delaying tactics by the BJP government.
As it happened, the previous BJP government had first announced that all real estate transactions stand frozen till a comprehensive Act incorporating the provisions of Apartment Act was in place. However, it did not repeal the Himachal Pradesh Apartment and Property Regulation Act of 2005, which authorized the builders to construct and sell flats under various categories, inspite of recommendations of the select committee of the house to repeal the Act.
