Elections for student bodies in HPU, colleges to be held on August 17

Elections for student bodies of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and other colleges of the state will be conducted on August 17.
“The decision was taken in a meeting held under the chairmanship of HPU vice- chancellor ADN Bajpai on the recommendation of Dean Student Welfare,” said HPU spokesperson Ranvir Verma here on Wednesday.
The spokesperson said that the process for elections of students’ body will start from August 10 with the display of voter lists while voting will be held on August 17. “The results will be declared on the same day in evening with the finishing of counting of votes,” Verma said, adding that HPU administration has directed the all Superintendent of Police to help in conducting peaceful and fair student body elections in all the colleges of the state.
HPU have total 108 colleges having strength of around 2.5 lakh students affiliated to it and students will elect their representatives on August 17. Meanwhile, HPU authorities had warned the student’s bodies that the elections will be cancelled if any incident of violence was reported in the concerned colleges. However, the students have objected this move of the university authority and had warned to hold agitation if the SCA elections were not held.
