Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and Punjab’s Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday announced to contest Delhi assembly and said that they contest the polls in alliance with BJP.
Badal said that the decision has been taken after receiving huge response to SAD from voters in Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee elections.
“SAD has consolidated its vote bank outside Punjab and now we are ready to expand our base beyond Punjab,” Sukhbir Badal said, adding their party may also field its candidates for Lok Sabha polls from Haryana and Delhi but final decision will be taken in Party meetings regarding Lok Sabha elections.
Sukhbir said that going by the eroding credibility of Congress led UPA government, there is possibility of general elections before December.
Meanwhile, he said that industry sector will have to face cuts for few days as central grid was not allowing Punjab to purchase power more than 5300 MW while keeping in view last year’s grid failure.
“However, after December every sector in Punjab will have 24X7 power with generation capacity of Punjab touching 13000 MW against present capacity of 6200 MW,” he said.
While showing concern over frequent disruption of traffic due to dharnas, he said that he has already issued directions to all Deputy Commissioners to identify separate dharna sites at each district headquarter so that people could exercise their democratic right without causing harassment to general public.
On the issue of FDI, Badal said that FDI should be allowed keeping in view the requirement of each sector and there should not be blanket permission for opening the floodgates of FDI.
“Punjab government has finalized a massive development plan of Rs 10000 crore for 13047 villages of the state and in next four years as per the phased plan drawn out by the Rural Development Department, all villages would see a total facelift,” he added.
