Veteran actor Pran was today presented with Dadasaheb Phalke at his residence in Mumbai by Indian Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tewari as he wasn’t able to attend award ceremony held in New Delhi.
Pran Kishan Sikand, popularly known as Pran, was presented the award for lifetime achievement in the field of Cinema as he was unable to travel to New Delhi for the National Film Awards function held on May 3, 2013 due to health reasons.
Pran was presented the coveted award, comprising of a Swarn Kamal, Citation, Shawl and a cash prize of Rs 10 lakhs.
Tiwary after presenting the award to veteran actor said that ‘it is an honour for me to present this award to Pran saab in person, in the Centenary year of the Indian Cinema and Pran Saab was one of the most deserving persons to get the award.’
Pran Sikand is the 44th recipient of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, that was instituted in 1969 and constituted in the memory of Dadasaheb Phalke who is considered the Father of Indian Cinema.
Pran is remembered for powerful performances in negative as well as positive roles and had performed with legends of Indian Cinema as Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor and Amitabh Bachhan.
Pran had brought new mannerism and style, holding the audience spell bound by his acting and he was awarded with the Padma Bhushan in 2001 for his contribution to Indian Cinema.
