Prominent freedom fighter and former HPCC chief Sarla Sharma dies at the age 92

Prominent freedom fighter and former President of Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee Sarla Sharma died today at Dharamshala today at the age of 92.
Sharma was elected to Punjab Vidhan Sabha in 1957 and 1962 and to Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha in 1972. She remained Minister of State besides Vice President of Indo-Soviet Cultural Society of Himachal Pradesh.
She will be cremated at Dharamshala tomorrow.
Himachal’s Governor Urmila Singh condoled her death and said that Sarla Sharma actively participated in freedom movement and contributed a lot for the development of the State.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that Sharma was a true Gandhian and as Minister she propagated the Gandhian philosophy in every nook and corner of the State. He said that Sharma contributed for the welfare of women and her efforts of taking up the matter regarding merger of Hilly areas of Punjab in Himachal will always be remembered.
