New hydro power projects to be set up in Spiti valley: Virbhadra Singh

Himachal government will setup new micro and mini power projects in Spiti valley to provide employment opportunities to tribal youths and usher a new era of prosperity in the region.
Himachal’s Chief minister Virbhadra Singh while addressing a public meeting in Tabo area of tribal Spiti valley today announced that the state government will setup more micro and mini hydro power projects in the region. “The state government, however, will seek prior consent from locals of tribal region and from their public representatives before setting up of such projects and will take into consideration their suggestions on the issue,” Singh said.
Singh said that the state government’s top priority is to provide equitable and balanced development of tribal areas and welfare of tribal people. Further, the pace of development would be accelerated which had come to a standstill during the previous BJP regime. “The Congress governments had always accorded priority for development of tribal and difficult areas of the state and Spiti valley was one of such areas,” Singh added.
The chief minister said that road from Samdhoo to Kaza was being widened by BRO on priority and the state government is also working to solve low voltage problem in Spiti valley that will resolved soon by providing power supply from Pooh.
He also announced to provide Rs 10,000 for Mahila Mandal and Rs 5,000 each for schools who presented cultural programme. Later, Singh visited Tabo Monastery and performed pooja there.
Earlier in the day, Singh while addressing a public gathering in Kaza, reiterated the resolve the government for speedy development of the tribal areas and said that constraints of funds would not be allowed to come in the way of development of tribal areas.
He added that all 149 schools which were de-notified by the previous BJP led government were being re-opened which also includes Hikkim High School of Spiti, located on the highest altitude in the State. He also announced to upgrade Kooling High School to Senior Secondary School and decided to establish a BSNL Tower at Kibber to provide better telecommunication services to the people of the area. He said that adequate funds would be made available for beautification and renovation of Kaza Monastery.
