Lawyer arrested by Punjab’s Vigilance bureau while accepting bribe

Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau on Monday arrested a deed writer cum lawyer for accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for executing power of attorney.
Sandeep Kakkar was caught red handed from his Ropar Court Complex office while taking bribe from complainant Shamsher Singh for executing a power of attorney for four marla land in Punjab’s Rupnagar district.
“Shamsher had filed complaint with Vigilance bureau that Sandeep was demanding bribe from him on the behalf of Rupnagar Tehsildar Jeevan Kumar Garg. Sandeep had allegedly demanded Rs 20,000 from Singh to execute a power of attorney for a four marla plot in Ropar,” Vigilance Bureau’s SSP Satinder Singh said.
Singh said that after receiving the complaint, they carry out investigations into the allegations after which they laid a trap and caught Kakkar red handed.
The Vigilance team had recovered the bribe money from the possession of Kakkar along with papers of the power of attorney and four registration deeds duly signed by the tehsildar.
A case has been registered against the accused lawyer under sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and Vigilance officials are now conducting investigating to ascertain the role of Tehsildar in the case.
