Kol Dam project oustees will get monthly allowance of Rs 20,000 for coming 10 years as compensation after the state government asked National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to share 1 percent revenue with them.
Bilaspur Sadar MLA Bambar Thakur said that the decision was taken by NTPC authorities after Himachal Chief minister Virbhadra Singh urged them to share 1 percent of Kol Dam project income with the oustees.
“The Kol Dam oustees has launched a protest few weeks ago after which an agreement in this regard was signed between the Kol Dam (NTPC) authorities and state government in the presence of public representatives, the State Planning Development and 20-Point Implementation Committee Chairperson Ram Lal Thakur,” Thakur said.
Thakur said that Kol Dam authorities have also assured of preference in the jobs to oustees and local population in employment in the project.
Around 1,100 families from Himachal’s Bilaspur, Mandi, Solan and Shimla districts were ousted due to the construction of Kol Dam project.
