Himachal seeks 5000 DTH sets for tribal areas

Himachal government today urged Indian Information and Broadcasting ministry to provide additional Direct to Home (DTH) sets for tribal area of the state on the analogy of Prasar Bharti’s scheme for the North Eastern states of the country.
In a meeting with Indian Information and Broadcasting minister Manish Tiwari, Himachal’s Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today requested Tiwary to grant 5000 more DTH sets for tribal areas.
Singh said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had May 28, 2005 had announced to provide 20,000 DTH sets for tribal areas of Himachal during his visit to the hill state.
“In 2009, the then Union Information and Broadcasting minister Ambika Soni had included Himachal in the DTH schemes of Doordarshan (DD) and had announced to distribute of 5000 additional DTH sets in tribal region of the state during 11th Five Year Plan period,” Singh said, adding that natives of tribal region of state should get this facility at the earliest so that they can watch DD programs.
Himachal had installed 20,000 DTH sets that were received by state government in 2008, were installed in tribal areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Bharmour and Pangi.
Singh added that Indian government should provide additional DTH sets for these areas at the earliest while keeping on mind the adverse topography of these areas and tough climatic conditions.
