Congress' youth leader shot dead by Akali leader in Punjab

Congress party’s youth leader was allegedly shot dead by Akali party’s local leader and his associates in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Wednesday evening.
30-year-old Sukhraj Singh, Youth Congress president, was allegedly attacked in Bhagopur area of Patti in Tarn Taran district last evening at around 7.30 pm by Akali Sarpanch Sarwan Singh along with his associates.
“Sukhraj had come to pray at a gurdwara at his native village Bhagopur after filing nominations for Block Samiti elections when Sarwan Singh along with associates attacked him. The accused allegedly opened fire on Sukhraj and fled from the spot,” said the police.
Sukhraj suffered two bullet injuries in the attack and was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police have registered a case in this regard and they are further investigating the matter.
Meanwhile, Congress leaders termed the attack as yet example of deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab under the SAD-BJP regime. Congress leaders claimed that it was a planned attack and Akali leaders had planned to kill him as he had entered into an argument while filing nominations papers.
