CBI official connived with Bansal’s nephew to destroy evidence in bribery case

Chandigarh/May 19
In yet another embarrassment for India’s premier investigating agency, an affidavit filed by CBI inspector has revealed that a senior CBI official had allegedly connived with former Railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s nephew in destroying evidence in bribery case.
As per reports, in the affidavit submitted by CBI inspector Balbir Singh to Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has alleged that CBI DIG Mahesh Kumar had leaked the information about the raid by a team of CBI officials from Delhi to Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla.
Kumar had allegedly informed Singla about the raid hours before his Sector 28 residence in Chandigarh was raided by a team of officials from Delhi as he had good friendship with Singla. “The alleged leak of information had given enough time to destroy evidence related to bribery scam in railways,” Singh has alleged in the affidavit.
Bansal’s nephew Vijay Singla was arrested from his residence by CBI on May 3 for allegedly accepting a bribe Rs 90 lakhs from a senior railway officer Mahesh Kumar for his promotion as Railway Board member. Kumar had reportedly offered to pay Rs 10-12 crore for his promotion. After the controversy over the issue, Bansal had to resign from the post of Railway minister.
