12 students injured in clash between SFI, ABVP activists in HP varsity

Meanwhile, HPU VC dissolved students body SCA (Students Central Association) after the violent clash and has ordered an inquiry to fix responsibility

Himachal Pradesh University today witnessed violent clash between the activists ABVP and SFI in which 12 students suffered injuries while 30 students have been booked by the police. Meanwhile, three students are reported to be in critical condition.
After the clash, Himachal University Vice Chancellor ADN Vajpayee has dissolved the SFI dominated students central Association (SCA) and had ordered an inquiry into the incident. The inquiry committee will be headed by Dean of Studies, Suresh Kumar and it will make recommendations to fix the responsibility for the clash.
Both the SFI and ABVP had blamed each other for the attack that took place today in University Campus. The activists of ABVP alleged that SFI activists armed with sharp edged weapons attacked their members injuring more than dozen activists, three of them critically. Meanwhile, the SFI had accused the Vice chancellor and ABVP of stirring violence.
The injured students has been identified as Naresh Kumar, Bhawan Kumar, Navneet Kashaul, Ritesh Sharma, Babu Ram and Kuldeep.
Police have registered a case against more than 30 students and they are further investigating the matter.
Vajpayee had warned students of strict action after the violent clash including expulsion from the University and cancellation of degree.
HPU administration has deployed additional police force in boys’ hostels to avoid recurrence of violence and no outsiders including the guests of hostlers would be allowed in the hostels. Further, the HPU Library will be closed at 5.00 pm until the further orders.
Left wing students’ union, SFI had condemned the dissolution of SCA by Varsity authorities and threatened to launch an agitation for removal of the VC or till he resigns.
