Olympic Bronze medal winner boxer, Vijender Singh today denied taking drugs as claimed by his friend, Ram Singh but refused to give consent for giving hair and blood, A senior Punjab police official said here.
A senior Punjab police official said that they questioned Vijender Singh today at SSP Crime and Telecommunication, Hardeep Singh Doon at his Panchkula office in the heroin recovery case in Fatehgarh Sahib district. “Singh was asked for his consent for giving his blood and hair samples required for forensic examination for investigation purpose, which he refused,” said the police official.
Sources said that Vijender denied that he knew persons involved in drug peddling in Punjab, who were arrested by the Punjab police and he was questioned by police for more than three hours.
In an interview to a private news channel, Ram Singh, a Punjab police cop and national level boxer, said that he and Vijender had used drugs. Ram Singh, Vijender’s roommate at the National Institute of Sports, Patiala claimed that he and Vijender had been using heroin. Singh further claimed that he and Vijender had met Kahlon atleast five times in Chandigarh and Vijender had asked him to procure drugs after he told him that he had used drugs. Police had arrested one NRI Anup Singh Kahlon and had recovered 26 kg heroin worth Rs 130 crores and had recovered the car of Vijender’s wife from near the house of accused. Vijender Singh had denied any links with the drug peddler and had said that his friend, Ram Singh might have taken his car to Zirakpur.
