HP to transfer scholarship directly to students’ account

Over 2 lakh students to benefit by direct transfer
Shimla/March 27
Over 2 lakh students of Himachal will now get their scholarship directly in their bank accounts as the Education department had decided to transfer the scholarship through e-pass service to students.
Earlier, the education department had decided to stop cash payment of scholarship to students and had decided to distribute scholarship through bank drafts and checks.
“The students of state will now have to open a bank account in a nationalized bank and have also to provide Adhaar Card number to the department,” said a government official.
At present, around 15 lakh students study in government educational institutions across the state and around 2 lakh students are given scholarship under various schemes.
These scholarship schemes include Swami Vivekanand Scholarship, Dr Ambedkar Scholarship, scholarships for SC/ST students, Thakur Sen Scholarship, Kalpana Chawla Scholarship and scholarship for minority students.
