Delhi gangrape case accused commits suicide in Tihar Jail

The main accused in Delhi gangrape case, Ram Singh allegedly committed suicide by hanging through the grills of jail here early this morning.
Jail officials said that Ram Singh was found hanging with grills of his jail cell at around 5 am in Jail no. 3 of Tihar by jail officials. “He was rushed to Jail hospital where he was declared brought dead. His body have been sent for autopsy in Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital,” said Jail officials.
Meanwhile, Delhi police had started investigations into the suicide by Ram Singh inside high security central jail and a team of forensic experts have been sent to investigate the crime scene. Sources said that Union Home ministry has also asked for a report into the incident from Jail administration.
Sources said that Ram Singh was allegedly beaten up by inmates and he has suicidal tendencies due to depression. He was kept under watch at the high security facility due to his suicidal tendencies and after the incident, the other four accused have also put under 24-hour watch by jail authorities.
Tihar Jail, one the biggest jail in Asia, houses many high profile accused and terrorists and it is high security facility with CCTV cameras, mobile jammers and other security.
Ram Singh was the driver of the bus in which the 23-year-old physiotherapist student was gang-raped by him and his five associates, which include a minor, in south Delhi. They had brutally beaten the girl and her male friend and threw them from the moving bus. Ram Singh, along with the other four accused, was charged by police with murder, gang-rape, destroying evidence, criminal conspiracy, dacoity, unnatural sex and conspiracy. The sixth accused is a Juvenile and is in an observation home.
