Local police beat youth mercilessly, SNS gheraoed police station

Shimla/June 7

A local youth was allegedly beaten mercilessly by the police here in a mistaken identity forcing the locals and Shimla Nagrik Sabha to gherao the police station.

The incident took place on the Wednesday night when a local youth, Ravi Thakur was returning to his home at Sanjauli after attending the Shimla Summer Festival,  suddenly some police personnel started him beating mercilessly leaving his leg fractured.

A close relative of Ravi Thakur alleged that he was mercilessly beaten by the four police personnel for no cause and they even dragged him to the Lakkar Bazar police station. He alleged that that some of them were in inebriated condition and local police let them go without medical examination instead of one who was not in inebriated condition.

“We have registered the F.I.R against the two unknown police men on the statement of youth’s mother, district police chief, Chandershekhar Sharma, said.

“He was beaten by the personnel of Reserve Batallion not by the local police and the strict action would be taken against them,” he added.

The relatives of the youth alleged that police was trying to save the culprits, which was evident from the fact that FIR was registered against the two unknown police personnel.

Shijmla Nagrik Sabha, spokesperson, Vijender Mehra alleged that police have mended this story to save their skin, while the reality was something else. He said that local police as well as personnel of reserve battalion were both responsible.

This was also violation of human rights as well, he added.

SNS demanded strict action against the culprits failing which they threatened to start mass agitations.
