KD Batish, new Information Commissioner of HP

The state government has appointed KD Batish, a senior lawyer and a former Additional Advocate General as new Information Commissioner of Himachal Pradesh. This post was vacated due the retirement of S.S. Parmar, former chief secretary on June 5. Several retired and serving IAS and IPS officers have expressed their desire to take up the responsibility.
There were seven persons who had applied for being appointed as the Information Commissioner. These include DGP, DS Manhas, two Additional Chief Secretaries, SK Dash and TG Negi, Shyama Dogra, a former member of the Central Administrative Tribunal, along with KD Batish. A retired IAS officer Kashmir Chand, former Planning Adviser SK Shad were also in the race of this post.
At present, Bhim Sen, an IAS officer who took retirement prematurely, is the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC).
