NCB’s intelligence officer caught red handed while taking bribe

An intelligence officer of Narcotics Control Bureau was allegedly caught red handed by a team of state vigilance while accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.10 lakh at Mandi. The accused officer of NCB, Arvind Sharma was later produced in the Mandi court where he was sent on three days police remand.

“The NCB officer had demanded a money from a person to settle a case and on the base of secret information the Special Investigation Team of Vigilance laid a trap and NCB officer was caught red handed while accepting bribe in NCB office,” Superintendent of Police( Vigilance), Mandi, Virender Sharma said.

It is worth mentioning that the NCB had opened its office in Mandi two years back to check the illegal activities of Charas trading. The Malana Velley of Kullu district is world famous for its quality Charas ( Malana Cream). Every year, Charasworth of crores of rupees is being smuggled from this valley at national as well as international level.

In the past two years NCB had trapped many smugglers in HP, especially in Kully Valley, who were engaged in this illegal activity. But the image of NCB is not clean.

Three years back, an officer of NCB, Saji Mohan had also been arrested at Chandigarh for his alliance with the Charastraders and that time his links with Charas mafia of HP were also exposed.

Sources said that NCB’s zonal office (Chandigarh) has also dismissed its officers and separate departmental inquiry has also been initiated against its officer.
