Six killed in car accident in Sirmaur

Six members of a family, including two women, were killed when a car skidded off the road and fell into a 200-metre deep gorge in district Sirmaur on Sunday. In the ill-fated car six family members were traveling which met an accident near Andheri village near Sangrah town.

“Five died on the spot, while the sixth one succumbed to injuries on the way to a hospital in Nahan,” Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Thakur said.

The victims have been identified as Jagar Singh, Deep Ram, Bindu Devi, Nomi Devi, Santosh and Gain Singh, all belonged to Dolna village in Sangrah tehsil. Thakur said the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained.

While in an another incident, a woman committed a suicide along with her child by jumping into the Renuka lake near the prominent Hindu shrine. According to police before committing the suicide, the woman, hailing from the Sarah area, informed her family on the phone about the suicide. The woman and the child were rushed to a Dadahu hospital but they died on the way to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Renuka MLA Hriday Ram got injuries when the vehicle in which he was travelling met an accident Saturday night.

Renuka MLA Hriday Ram was returning from his constituency along with his son, got minor injuries in the accident. Ram was taken to a hospital in Nahan from where he was referred to a Chandigarh hospital.
