Student clash leaves two dozen injured in HPU


Nearly two dozen students were injured in a group clash which took place at Himachal Pradesh University campus on Saturday evening.

“The clash took place between groups of Students Federation of India and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad over some petty issue,” a police official said.

The some of the injured students have been admitted to Indira Gandhi Medical College and Deen Dyal Uppadhyaya Hospital.

ABVP leader, Sunny Shukla alleged that ABVP activists were attacked by SFI activists when they were just crossing the Cafetria Building in HPU campus.

While the SFI campus president, Jita Singh Negi alleged that they were attacked by ABVP activists even in the presence of police.

Sources said that the activists of ABVP and SFI also pelted stone on each other in which the some police personal were hit by the stones leaving two injured. The mirrors of a police vehicle were also broken in the incident.

District police chief, Jagat Ram said that police had registered cross FIR on the complaints of both student outfits.

“The clash between the Students Federation of India (SFI) and the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists took place around 2.30 p.m. over some issue.  However, the situation is tense but under control. Additional police personnel have been deployed to counter any untoward situation.” he added.
Meanwhile, both the ABVP and the SFI blamed each other for the violence in the University and demanded strict action against their rivals.
